Intercultural misunderstanding in Japanese language learning often occurs due to differences between visible culture (見える文化mieru bunkka) and invisible culture (見えない文化mienai bunkka). This study aims to evaluate the role of Lesson Planning in overcoming intercultural misunderstanding, by emphasizing a discussion-based learning approach and cultural reflection. This study involved 90 students who were divided into 30 small groups with research stages including pre-test, group discussion, cultural analysis based on the iceberg theory, and post-test. In the discussion, students were given the opportunity to analyze Japanese and Indonesian cultures, choose examples of certain cultures, and make recommendations to overcome barriers to intercultural communication. The results of the study indicate that an approach that integrates cultural analysis, group discussion, and interaction with native speakers can help students understand Japanese more deeply and reduce intercultural misunderstanding. The Intercultural Communicative Competence Theory (Byram 1997) and the Cultural Iceberg Model are used to interpret how experiential learning can increase students' awareness of Japanese communication patterns. As a recommendation, this study emphasizes the need for Lesson Planning based on cultural analysis and group discussions, with an approach that encourages cultural understanding through reflection and direct experience. Thus, Japanese language learning not only improves students' linguistic skills, but also helps them build cross-cultural communication skills more effectively
Yuyun Rosliyah

https://carubanproceeding.ipbcirebon.ac.id/index.php/carubanproceeding/article/view/29

Bullying remains a persistent social problem that demands effective intervention to raise public awareness through anti-bullying campaigns. Visual media, particularly anti- bullying posters, are powerful tools to convey moral and emotional messages to foster empathy towards victims of bullying. This study aims to examine how empathy is constructed through visual and verbal elements in selected anti-bullying posters using a Multimodal Discourse Analysis (MDA) approach. Using Kress and van Leeuwen's visual grammar framework, this research investigates representational, interpersonal and compositional meanings to uncover the strategies used to convey messages that encourage empathy. Data was collected through purposive sampling of three anti-bullying posters sourced from international campaigns. The findings show that empathy is built by representing the emotional state of the victim, utilising direct and indirect gaze to engage viewers. Textual components, such as slogans and captions, further strengthen the emotional connection by encouraging viewers to acknowledge and address bullying behaviour. This research contributes to the understanding of the construction of empathy in visual social campaigns and underscores the importance of multimodal resources in shaping public perceptions of bullying. The implications suggest that incorporating strong empathetic appeals in campaign design can increase audience engagement and promote more effective anti-bullying messages.
Miftakhur Rizqi

https://carubanproceeding.ipbcirebon.ac.id/index.php/carubanproceeding/article/view/32

This study aims to analyze the collocation in online news articles about the Vina case on the radarcirebon.disway.id website. The data was collected with the keyword "kasus vina" and involved 197 articles stored in .txt files and included in the corpus. Using a mixed method, this study combines quantitative analysis with AntConc and qualitative analysis. From the 5,460 words generated, the top 100 words were selected and reduced to 57 words of content after excluding the word function. The words are categorized by parts of speech, and colocation is found based on the theory of (Michael McCarthy & Felicity O’Dell, 2005), which includes six types of collocation, namely Adjectives + Nouns, Nouns + Nouns, Verbs + Nouns or Nouns + Verb, Verbs + Prepositions/Expressions, Verbs + Adverbs, and Adverbs + Adjectives. The results of the analysis showed two dominant types of collocation: Verb + Noun (frequency 51), which describes the legal process, and Noun + Noun (frequency 2.067), which indicates important elements such as the perpetrator, victim, legal entity, and location. The collocation found shows how the media frames the Vina case by emphasizing legal and procedural aspects. The media also links important actors such as perpetrators, victims, and law enforcement officials in a repetitive and meaningful narrative structure, thus shaping a directed public understanding.
Mochamad Tabah

This research aims to describe to whom wakamono kotoba (youth language) is actually used among Japanese university students, with a focus on students at a university in Japan. Wakamono kotoba refers to the unique vocabulary, slang, and expressions commonly used by young people in Japan, typically between the ages of 10 and 30. Although such language is often excluded from formal language education, it holds practical value for foreign learners seeking to build closer social connections with Japanese peers. This study employs a qualitative, descriptive approach, aiming to gain a deep understanding of the phenomenon rather than relying on numerical analysis or hypothesis testing. Data were collected through an online questionnaire distributed via the Instagram social media platform to 30 Japanese university students living in on-campus dormitories alongside foreign students. The questionnaire explores subjective experiences, perceptions, and the social conditions in which wakamono kotoba is used. 34% of respondents find it strange to use wakamono kotoba with people in their 30s–40s, 24% find it normal, while 42% remain neutral.
Dafa AminuddinSoni Mulyawan Setiana

The title of this research is Structure and Meaning of Sentence Patterns ~ Darake, ~ Mamire, and ~ Zukume in Japanese Digital Newspapers. This research is motivated by the importance of understanding synonyms (ruigigo) in Japanese which have similar meanings but differ in usage. This data collection technique uses a literature study approach with the Simak-catat method. The data analysis technique used consists of two main approaches, namely descriptive techniques and substitution techniques. This research found 45 data, 15 data ~Darake, 15 data ~ mamire, and 15 data ~Zukume. The purpose of this research is to find out the structure and meaning, similarities and differences, and whether the three sentence patterns can replace each other. The data sources used in this research are Asahi Shinbun and Yomiuri. The research method used is descriptive qualitative method. The theories used are Iori (2002), and Etsuko (2010). Based on the results of the data analysis, ~darake is used to indicate that an object or location is filled with something usually negative or unpleasant, such as dirt, blood, or trouble, while ~mamire emphasizes a state in which the surface of an object or body is completely covered or smeared by something, often a liquid or adherent substance, and ~zukume is used to describe a condition in which everything related to one theme or situation occurs in sequence, both positive and negative. As such, the three sentence patterns cannot be completely substituted for each other as each has different limitations of meaning and syntactic function.
Anisa DaniyantiRainhard OliverShabrina Rahmalia

https://carubanproceeding.ipbcirebon.ac.id/index.php/carubanproceeding/article/view/36

This study explores Persona 3: Reload through a psychosemiotic lens, combining semiotic theory and psychoanalysis to interpret symbolic representations of mortality and identity. As a remake of the 2006 classic, the game employs powerful visual and narrative symbolism such as the use of blue themes, silent protagonists, and mythic symbol like the Evoker to reflect deep psychological meaning. Using Roland Barthes’ theory of myth and Carl Jung’s archetypal psychology, this research investigates how the game's mechanics and storytelling interpret themes of death, transformation, and self-realization. A qualitative descriptive method is used and involving deep analysisof game texts and dialogues. Findings reveal that Persona 3: Reload offers a narrative where internal conflicts and existential reflections are externalized through gameplay elements. This research will highlights the role of video games as mediums for psychological aspects and cultural breakthrough.
Muhamad Rifky Prihatna

The information processing theory describes how humans receive, process, store, and retrieve information, similar to how a computer works. In this theory, short-term memory plays a significant role in the memory process, despite its limited capacity, as it serves as a temporary space for the brain to process stimuli from the environment. This study aims to describe the impact of information processing theory on learning length unit conversion by engaging students in singing the children’s song “Naik-naik ke Puncak Gunung” by Ibu Sud, with modified lyrics that include the names of length units and how to convert them. The study used a qualitative approach with direct observation as the data collection technique. The results indicate that the application of information processing theory in learning length unit conversion involves three main stages: identifying stimuli as perception, selecting responses as decision-making, and programming responses as actions. The implementation of this theory in length unit conversion learning was carried out by providing HOTS (Higher Order Thinking Skills) questions to assess students' abilities before and after the learning process in Grade IV at SDN 34 Kota Bengkulu.
Ike KurniawatiAtika SusantiHerlin Kurniasari

2025-06-072025-06-07118391VERBAL HUMOR STRATEGIES IN @PESONAINDONESIA’S TIKTOK COMMENTS: A PRAGMATIC ANALYSIS USING GTVH
https://carubanproceeding.ipbcirebon.ac.id/index.php/carubanproceeding/article/view/40

The TikTok account @pesonaindonesia presents a tourism promotion strategy with a cinematic approach and a quirky sound, provoking various humorous responses from users. This study aims to identify the types of humour that appear in user comments and analyse their humour-forming structures using Attardo and Raskin's General Theory of Verbal Humour (GTVH). The authors collected 25 comments from five TikTok contents and classified them into five types of humour: irony, sarcasm, parody, wordplay and absurdity. Analysis of six GTVH parameters-Script Opposition, Logical Mechanism, Situation, Target, Narrative Strategy, and Language-shows that irony and absurdity appear most dominant, driven by the mismatch between promotional visuals and audio used. Humour not only acts as entertainment, but also as a form of criticism, cultural participation, and public evaluation of digital institutions. The findings reinforce the importance of sociolinguistic studies in understanding the dynamics of digital communication and public perception of institutional content.
Nadhifatul Muyassaroh Muyassaroh

https://carubanproceeding.ipbcirebon.ac.id/index.php/carubanproceeding/article/view/41

This study explores the address in The State of the Union delivered by President Biden in 2024 using Hyland’s (2005) interpersonal metadiscourse theory to examine how metadiscourse markers function as persuasive strategies. The research identifies and categorizes the interactive and interactional elements of metadiscourse including transitions, frame markers, self-mentions, and engagement markers elements, and explores their role in enhancing the speech’s persuasiveness. Data were collected from the official transcript and video of the address, a key political event offering rich persuasive discourse. Using a qualitative descriptive method, the study found a total of 72 interactive markers, dominated by transitions and frame markers, which help organize the speech and clarify its structure. More prominently, 306 interactional markers were identified, with self-mentions and engagement markers prevailing, indicating Biden’s effort to build rapport with his audience and assert his authority. The findings reveal that Biden strategically employs these markers to guide his audience, establish credibility, and foster engagement, thereby enhancing both the clarity and emotional appeal of his speech. By examining metadiscourse in a political speech, this study offers new perspectives on its communicative role and lays groundwork for future exploration of persuasive discourse in politics.
Muhammad Iqbal Fadlilah Junianto

This research aims to analyze the species composition and abundance of molluscs in the Mangrove and Proboscis Monkey Conservation Area (KKMB) Tarakan City. Data collection was carried out using quantitative descriptive methods with purposive sampling techniques on 22 plots measuring 5×5 m² with a distance between plots of 50 m. Samples were taken at low tide to facilitate species identification based on morphological characteristics. The results of the research showed that there was an imbalance in the structure of the Mollusca community with a strong dominance of the Gastropoda class with 811 individuals (96.20%) consisting of 5 species, while the Bivalvia class only found 32 individuals (3.80%) with one species, namely Kapah Mussels (Gelonia sp). Diversity analysis with the Shannon-Wiener index shows a very low value (H'=0.1618) and a high Simpson dominance index (D=0.9266), indicating the existence of ecological pressure in the ecosystem. Even though its abundance is low, the presence of the Gelonia sp kapah mussel has an important role as a bioindicator of environmental quality and in the nutrient cycle of the mangrove ecosystem. The results of this research emphasize the importance of efforts to improve habitat quality through mangrove rehabilitation and reducing anthropogenic impacts to maintain the ecological balance of conservation areas. This information can be a basis for consideration in developing a more effective management strategy for the Tarakan City KKMB in the future.
Sari RamadaniDhimas Wiharyanto

Parenting is the way parents educate, stimulate, nurture, train, and help develop various aspects of child development so that they are able to live life optimally. Each generation has a different approach in implementing parenting, which is influenced by the values, norms, and socio-cultural conditions of its time. This study aims to conduct a literature review on the differences in parenting between generations, especially between Generations X, Y (Millennials), and Z, and identify the unique characteristics of each generation in educating children. The study was conducted by searching scientific articles from electronic databases such as Proquest, Science Direct, Scopus, and Google Scholar, using the keyword “parenting” for publications between 2020 and 2025. The results show that Generation X tends to use authoritarian parenting that emphasizes discipline and control, while Generation Y is more flexible with authoritative patterns that combine emotional closeness and clear boundaries. On the other hand, Generation Z, which is entering the role of parents, shows a tendency towards democratic parenting that emphasizes open communication and understanding of children's digital development. The findings suggest that parenting practices continue to evolve as social values and technology change. This study makes an important contribution to understanding the dynamics of parenting across generations and can serve as a basis for developing contextualized and adaptive parenting education interventions.
Salwa MuawiyahImelda Fransisca SudirlanNurlatifah NurlatifahRidha HabibahWina Julianingsih

https://carubanproceeding.ipbcirebon.ac.id/index.php/carubanproceeding/article/view/44

Literary works can describe social criticism of patriarchal culture, especially in the context of society. Literary works are able to raise the reality of gender inequality, show that women are often victims of systemic oppression, and open up space for discourse on resistance and empowerment. The background of this study is based on the importance of analyzing characters in novels that represent ideological positions towards feminism, both those who support (profeminism) and those who reject (counterfeminism). This study aims to identify and analyze profeminist and counterfeminist figures in the novel Jerum by Oka Rusmini. The method used is a qualitative approach with descriptive analysis based on the theory of literary feminism. Data were analyzed by critical reading of the text, which focuses on narrative, dialogue, and power relations between characters. The results of the study show that the profeminist characters are I Kundangdya, Ni Sekar, Nyi Semal & Aki Gentong, Aki Gubrah & Ni Sendeng, Ni Jerum, and Ni Sentil. The counterfeminist characters are I Keber, Ni Sambreng, and Ki Liman Tarub. The Jerum novel becomes a place where the conflict and debate between the idea of feminism and the rejection of it in the life of Balinese society occurs. This study shows that literature can be an important medium to convey and discuss issues about women. This finding also contributes to the study of feminism in Indonesian literature by showing the struggle and gender inequality depicted through the characters and stories in the novel.
Ratna Nurul FauziyahAtikahRully Khoeru Sholihin

The Kansai dialect is one of the most well-known dialects in the Japanese language, often associated with expressive, humorous, and sometimes rough personalities. In the field of linguistics, this phenomenon can be examined through the concept of yakuwarigo a type of role language or speech style associated with specific character types in fictional media such as manga, anime, and drama. This study explores how the Kansai dialect is used as yakuwarigo to shape character identity, reinforce social stereotypes, and create distinctive communication dynamics. A qualitative descriptive method is used by analyzing Kansai dialect dialogues spoken by the character Anastasia Hoshin in the manga titled Re:Zero − Starting Life in Another World Chapter 3. The results of the study indicate several distinctive grammatical features of the Kansai dialect as spoken by the character Anastasia Hoshin. Thus, the use of the Kansai dialect in the context of yakuwarigo demonstrates how language variation can serve as a powerful narrative tool in shaping character perception and enriching storytelling.
Rizal Diwansyah PutraMohammad Ali
