Abstract

This study discusses the violation of politeness maxims and implicatures found in netizens' comments on the TikTok account @Owner Daviena Skincare. Communication on digital platforms such as TikTok often demonstrates a tendency to violate politeness principles, which may result in pragmatic effects in online interactions. The purpose of this study is to identify the types of politeness maxim violations and to uncover the implicatures contained in users’ utterances. This research adopts a qualitative descriptive method, with data collected through non-participatory observation and note-taking techniques. The data were analyzed using a pragmatic equivalent method with the speech partner as the determining tool. The results reveal 13 instances of politeness maxim violations, predominantly involving the approbation maxim and the tact maxim. These violations generate implicatures in the form of sarcasm, implicit criticism, or impolite remarks that may trigger disharmony in communication. These findings indicate that politeness in social media communication remains a significant issue, highlighting the need for greater attention in maintaining the quality of digital interactions among users.
