Abstract

Anxiety is one of the common mental health problems among college students that can have a negative impact on academic achievement and psychological well-being. This study aims to conduct a literature review on the factors that influence anxiety in college students. The search was conducted in electronic databases such as Google Scholar and Research Gate using the keyword "anxiety" with the year of publication of the article between 2020 and 2024. This article conducts a literature review of fifteen recent studies to identify the factors that influence anxiety in college students. The results of the literature review indicate that the factors that influence anxiety in college students consist of internal factors such as gender (female) and introverted personality. In addition, external factors such as the environment, social support (family, parents, friends, teachers, relatives and neighbors), academic stress and excessive smartphone use were also found to have an effect. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that college students' anxiety is influenced by a complex interaction between internal and external factors. If someone experiences anxiety, there are several ways to overcome it, such as preparing for the exam well in advance, studying by simulating a small exam, and communicating with family or friends.
