MONOFTONGISASI DIFTONG PADA DIALEK KANSAI BERBAHASA JEPANG (KAJIAN FONOLOGI)

Abstract

This study discusses the phenomenon of monoftongization of diphthongs in Kansai dialect of Japanese. The objectives of this study include to find out the change of diphthongs to monoftongs in Kansai dialect of Japanese and to identify the way of monoftongization process of diphthongs in Kansai dialect. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative method with the collection technique of simak-catat. The data were collected from the Kansai dialect intonation learner book entitled ‘Kiitteite Oboeru Kansai (Osaka) Kansai Nyuumon no Akusento’. The results obtained by using distingictive features and generative transformation, the researcher found 64 data that experienced diphthong monophthongization. Of the 64 data, 45 data changed diphthong [aɰ] into monoftong [oo], 17 data changed diphthong [oɰ] into double vowel [oo], and 2 data changed diphthong [ie] into monoftong [ee].
